A leading campaigner has accused the prime minister of "appeasing" big tech companies and being "late to the party" in regulating social media and artificial intelligence.
That is until recently, when a social media platform’s ill-kept privacy files surfaced on the public internet and an increasingly litigious group of people decided to take matters to court. Now, in an attempt to work proactively to keep underage users safe online and also ensure the privacy of everyone’s collected data, companies are pursuing new methods to verify the age of their users online. But the lack of federal regulation is also fueling this paradoxical directive and fostering the conflict: social media companies can collect the data of users of all ages, to keep children safe.
As part of its Amazon partnership, OpenAI plans to develop a new “stateful runtime environment” where OpenAI models will run on Amazon’s Bedrock platform. The company will also expand its previously announced AWS partnership, which committed $38 billion in compute services, by $100 billion. OpenAI has committed to consuming at least 2GW of AWS Tranium compute as part of the deal, and also plans to build custom models to support Amazon consumer products.
